Guided Access on iPads

Although we have a class set of iPads at our school, we also have one iPad per class. These are increasingly used for interventions. However, one issue we have had is that children were taking themselves off the chosen app and finding another app to go on.

So how did we overcome this problem?

We set up guided access that keeps children on the locked app. You can also select certain areas- such as a back button – to stop children from accessing. Teachers sometimes use iPad time for a reward. Guided access allows you to set a time limit which makes the screen go blank and no longer be accessible.

Personally, I find this really helpful if there are certain children who struggle to stay on chosen app or with younger children who like to press lots of buttons!
